Background

Propulsion Lab owns a box vacuum product and is putting manufacturing in place to support a private label opportunity, with a forecast of 700 to 1,000 units per year. The sheet metal fabricated portion of the product is fully designed. Dimensioned drawings and STEP models have been supplied for the complete fabricated parts set, in mild steel and 5052 aluminium, with welded sub-assemblies and satin black powder coat.

The vacuum motor is sourced independently by Propulsion Lab in Mexico and sits outside this scope. Following the introduction from Tyler Do and our review of the full pack, this proposal sets out a costed manufacturing quotation engagement to establish accurate finished, assembled, and delivered pricing at 100, 300, and 500 units.

02 — Scope of the Engagement

Scope of the Quotation Engagement

The engagement covers the full costing of the fabricated sheet metal portion, supplied finished, assembled, and packed. The work breakdown is as follows.

Fabrication review: a full review of the supplied drawings and STEP models across the complete fabricated parts set.
Process costing: manufacturing route and process costing across laser cutting, bending, welding, machining, and powder coat, including the welded sub-assemblies and the specified stitch and seam welds.
Hardware sourcing: rivet nuts and fasteners sourced to equivalent specification, matched to the McMaster callouts in grade and finish.
Assembly assessment: build sequence and labour for the finished, assembled unit, with the client-supplied motor excluded.
Packaging design: a protective carton engineered to hold the assembled unit and protect it in transit, ready for your branding at a later stage.
Delivered cost modelling: freight-inclusive landed pricing to your nominated destination.
Reference sample verification: the unit you ship to us is used to confirm build, finishing, and packaging against the drawings.

2.1 Scope basis Locked

The fee is a fixed engagement fee covering the finished, assembled unit exactly as supplied. That unit comprises the following fabricated parts and components:

  • Main box assembly, welded 5052 aluminium, comprising the main plate, top box 2, top box 1, ring 1, and square baffle, with rivet nuts installed as drawn.
  • 55 adapter ring, welded mild steel.
  • 2 inch inlet 100, welded mild steel.
  • Bolt on float pole, welded mild steel.
  • Motor standoff, machined 304 stainless steel, three off.
  • Motor cage, mild steel, left and right.
  • PL150 face 100, 5052 aluminium.
  • Inlet rubber seal and motor rubber seal.
  • Sourced hardware to equivalent specification, satin black powder coat on all specified parts, final assembly, and protective packaging.

Anything outside this list is a separate exercise. Added parts, revised drawings, additional finishes, changes to the assembly, or the further components you may send at a later stage are quoted separately and do not fall inside this fee.

A single, clear costing package containing:

Finished, assembled, and delivered unit pricing at 100, 300, and 500 units.
The three volume tiers presented side by side so your volume position is clear.
Any manufacturability observations found during review, offered as engineering recommendations for your consideration as design owner.
A clear statement of what is included in the unit price and what sits outside it, for example the client-supplied motor.
04 — Timeline

This is run as a priority engagement. The costing package is delivered within a maximum of 3 weeks, that is 15 working days. The turnaround is measured from the date the reference unit arrives with us. It does not start before the unit is in our hands, as the physical sample is what lets us confirm the build, finishing, and packaging against the drawings.

The fee reflects the real man hours in producing a costing package of this level, across the full parts set, assembly, packaging design, and delivered cost modelling. As you have come to us through Tyler as a warm referral, it is set at a preferential referral rate.

07 — Notes & Clarifications

Notes and Clarifications

The quotation reflects the design exactly as supplied. Any manufacturability recommendations are engineering suggestions you approve as design owner. Final manufacturability is confirmed at physical first-article sampling, not by drawing review alone.
This is a fixed engagement fee against the locked scope in Section 2.1. Additional parts, revised drawings, added finishes, changes to the assembly, or further components sent at a later stage are quoted separately and are not covered by this fee.
The issued quotation will be valid for 30 days and priced against the drawings as supplied, subject to raw material market movement.
Hardware is matched to equivalent specification in grade and finish. Any item you require as the exact US part can be sourced on request and reflected in the pricing.
The vacuum motor is supplied by Propulsion Lab and is excluded from scope and pricing.
Manufacturing is delivered in-house at Shield Works and through our verified partner network, with Shield Works as prime contractor and single point of accountability. You deal with one commercial counterparty.
Once production begins, Shield Works operates as your manufacturing partner. You receive a single unit cost per finished unit that covers goods, assembly, quality control, supplier management, packaging, and logistics coordination, not billed as separate service fees.
Propulsion Lab retains all intellectual property in the design and drawings. Shield Works operates within an IP-secure, ISO-certified facility. An NDA has been provided by our team and covers the engagement and any wider supplier engagement.
